I don’t understand how people can live in the midst of all the wonders of the world (like this) and still deny Your existence… I don’t understand…

I’m 8 weeks into a religious studies class called “History of Atheism” this quarter. 8 weeks ago, I was confident that I would not be affected even a smidge. 7 weeks ago, I was worn down by the amount of work and reading needed for this class, but nothing more. 6 weeks ago, my classmates were beginning to openly mock religions and theology. I was beginning to worry. 5 weeks ago, the professor also joined in my classmates’ open mockery, specifically towards Christianity. This professor, in a previous religious studies course, had done a good job concealing his origin of belief/disbelief. I was confused by the brash, much-too-opinionated professor speaking before me. 4 weeks ago, I told my group members of my faith and tried to answer questions they had about religion/Christianity. I was hopeful. 3 weeks ago, I reunited with that group, and they had forgotten everything we had talked about, and expected me to laugh at God with them. My head started to hurt. 2 weeks ago, I dreaded going to class, and the things everyone was saying was starting to discourage me. The weekly 50+ pages of reading atheist texts, mostly refuting Christian dogmas and scriptures was starting to really frustrate and aggravate me. 1 week ago, I was forced to actually think in that class as though the reading had somehow applied to me, because the professor pointed me out to speak about a particular passage. I hated the class. “Discouraging” was too weak of a word to describe how I was feeling. Today, I will have to face this class again. Lord, give me the courage to face whatever they have to say; give me hope to repel any of those blasphemous ideas from penetrating my thoughts; give me patience to bear the time in that classroom; and most of all, give me love to love those who hate You..

“8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” - Deuteronomy 31: 8
